Case Description:
Ms. Sun Houlian, 57, was from Xiayu Village, Gaoling Town, in the Mouping District of Yantai City, Shandong Province. On July 11, 2005, Yang Yinghai and Zhu Jianguo from the Public Security Bureau of Mouping District, along with police from Gaoling Town broke into a Dafa practitioner's house. They arrested Sun Houlian, and held her in the Town Police Station. Sun Houlian was taken to the Mouping Detention Center the next day and was later sentenced to two years of forced labor in the No. 2 Women's Labor Camp in Zipowang Village. In the labor camp, the police forced Sun Houlian to watch while they brutally tortured another practitioner. Over the course of her incarceration, she was severely traumatized mentally and physically. By the summer of 2006, Ms. Sun could hardly walk, and relied on others for being fed and using the bathroom. She also lost her vision and couldn't talk. In August 2006, the labor camp released Sun Houlian to her family. Her family took her to Liuhuangding Hospital in Yantai where she was diagnosed with a late stage brain tumor. They spent seven thousand yuan in only two days on her medical treatment. For a farmer's income, that medical bill was beyond what they could afford. She passed away on March 16, 2007, at around 6:00 a.m.
