(Minghui.org) In the recently exposed evidence of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) harvesting organs from living Falun Gong practitioners, it was mentioned that the surgeon did not use anesthesia (see http://clearwisdom.net/html/articles/2009/12/14/113122.html). Some people have questioned this aspect of the testimony. Here is an explanation from a medical expert:

The question was raised overseas that if they did not use anesthesia and the victim may twitch, wouldn't the doctor inadvertently cut the desirable organs? The anesthesia enables muscles to relax, and it is not that expensive, so why don't they use it?

The doctor replied that while harvesting live organs, one absolutely does not have to use anesthesia, but one would however inject a shot of heparin to prevent blood from coagulating. When death row prisoners are shot, the bullets usually hit the central nerve in the back of the brain, and the prisoners will thus not be able to move of their own will. When doctors quickly harvest organs, the prisoner would nonetheless still twitch as a natural reaction even after being injected with anesthesia.

Doctors participating in such harvesting know that using anesthesia affects the quality of the organs. During the Cultural Revolution, some political victims' organs were harvested live, and that process has been exposed as well. People can read about the whole process, during which anesthesia was not used, but the victim would be held down by several other people during the harvesting.
