(Minghui.org) Since her son and daughter-in-law's illegal arrest in August 2012, 67-year-old Ms. Dai Liwen's relentless efforts in appealing for the couple's release has drawn much attention from the local authorities. After several failed attempts to intimidate her, agents from the Chongqing 610 Office recently threatened to arrest her and force her to attend brainwashing sessions.

Ms. Dai and her family have been repeatedly arrested, detained and sentenced to forced labor camps and prison for their belief in Falun Gong.

Ms. Dai's Efforts to Lodge Appeals

In a large scale arrest targeting more than 20 local practitioners, Ms. Dai's son Mr. Li Xiang Dong and daughter-in-law Ms. Zhan Lanzhen were arrested on August 19, 2012. They were later held at the Huayan Detention Center in the Jiulongpo District.

The arrest was planned by officials from the Chongqing Political and Legal Affairs Committee, and carried out by officers from the Jiulongpo and Banan District Domestic Security Divisions.

Ms. Dai went back and forth between the Jiulongpo Domestic Security Division and Xiejiawan Police Station after the arrest, appealing for the couple's release and return of their confiscated items. She also asked to see the official detention notice. Officers gave her the runaround, and verbally abused and threatened her.

Ms. Dai then turned to local government agencies to file complaints against officials at the Jiulongpo District Domestic Security Division and Xiejiawan Police Station for their illegal search and detention, but to no avail. When she hired an attorney from Beijing to represent her son and daughter-in-law, director Su Yin of the Jiulongpo District Domestic Security Division was furious. He made things very difficult for Ms. Dai and the attorney.

As insufficient evidence was available from the Jiulongpo District Procuratorate, the decision was made to release Ms. Dai's son on bail on June 9, 2013. However, agents from the city's 610 Office showed up at the detention center and immediately took him to the Geleshan Brainwashing Center in the Shapingba District, where he was held for four months.

During that time, Ms. Dai appealed to officials at the Chongqing Party Committee, two levels of the People's Congress, city government, city Legislative Affairs Office, city police department and various levels of the Procuratorate. Ms. Dai also filed complaints to the Jiulongpo District Procuratorate, Chongqing Procuratorate No. 5 Branch, and the Chongqing Procuratorate against the Jiulongpo District 610 Office and the Huangjueping Street Residential Committee for their illegal detention and violation of a citizen's right to freedom. She demanded that those responsible be brought to justice.

Daughter-in-law Sentenced

Ms. Dai's daughter-in-law Ms. Zhan was tried on November 1, 2013, after 14 months of detention. She pleaded “not guilty” and urged the judge to make the right decision. Her attorney also delivered convincing arguments to counter the allegations against his client. No verdict was reached.

When the trial re-convened on January 24, 2014, Ms. Zhan was sentenced to five years in prison. Officials from the Chongqing Procuratorate No. 5 Branch, where she filed an appeal, upheld the sentence on February 28, 2014, without notifying her attorney. Ms. Zhan is now on a hunger strike to protest the illegality of her sentence.

Under orders from the local 610 Office, officers from the Huangjueping Police and officials from the Tanzikou Community Residential Committee recently threatened to arrest Ms. Dai and subject her to brainwashing sessions if she didn't heed to their warnings and stop her appealing efforts.

Repeatedly Persecuted Since Falun Gong Was Banned

Ms. Dai lives in the Tianye Community of the Jiulongpo District in Chongqing. She had been diagnosed with an overactive thyroid gland, asthma and coronary heart disease. The many illnesses made her life so miserable.

She was overjoyed when she returned to good health after she started practicing Falun Gong in January 1999. She quit gambling, her temper improved and she became a much friendlier person.

Since the CCP, under the leadership of Jiang Zemin, launched the persecution in July 1999, Ms. Dai has been repeatedly detained and sentenced. Her son, Mr. Li, has been sentenced to two years of forced labor and was given a 15-year prison term for broadcasting a television program clarifying the facts about Falun Gong. Her daughter-in-law Ms. Zhen has also been repeatedly arrested, sentenced and tortured.
