(Minghui.org) May 13, 2023, was the 31st anniversary of Falun Dafa’s public introduction and the 24th World Falun Dafa Day. Canadian government officials at all levels sent letters and videos to express their congratulations and held flag-raising ceremonies in honor of the special day.
Raising the Falun Dafa Day Flag in Leiden, the Mayor Posted a Message of Celebration

Brian Ostrander, Mayor of Brighton, Ontario, personally hoisted the Falun Dafa Day flag on May 13 to celebrate the 31st anniversary of Falun Dafa’s public introduction.
Later, Mayor Ostrander shared a photo of the flag raising on his Facebook page and wrote in the post: “Today is World Falun Dafa Day! The municipality is flying the Falun Dafa flag in recognition of World Falun Dafa Day. As an inclusive community, we recognize the right of citizens to worship freely. Falun Dafa adherents were persecuted for their beliefs.
“We respect all free people and freedom of worship.”
During this year’s World Falun Dafa Day observances, as of May 25, a total of 17 cities in Canada held flag-raising and lighting ceremonies. In addition, the Canadian Falun Dafa Association received more than 70 congratulatory letters from government officials at all levels, including the Minister of Heritage, John Brassard, Member of Parliament (MP), the mayor of Saskatoon, the largest city in Saskatchewan, and the mayor of Regina.

Minister Pat Dunn stated in the letter, “The Falun Dafa community has endured, persevered, and flourished peacefully, helping build communities across the country and here in Nova Scotia.
“I am proud to help affirm Canada’s commitment to the values of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance, and to the upholding of human rights and freedom of conscience.”
MP: Appreciate Falun Dafa’s Contribution to the Country
On May 13, John Brassard MP participated in the first flag-raising ceremony in Barrie, expressing his gratitude for the contribution of Falun Dafa’s values of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance to the community. He also recorded a congratulatory video specially for this day.

John Brassard MP stated in the video, “Falun Dafa is good. I am very pleased to bring greetings to the Falun Dafa community bringing Truthfulness, Compassion, and Tolerance to Canada. Many Falun Gong practitioners in Canada arrived as refugees to escape the persecution in China. In Canada, they are assured to have the freedom that all Canadians have and now be a part of Canadian society. We are very grateful for their contributions to our nation. I know that Falun Gong is proud to be a part of our community here and to call Canada your home. On behalf of the Conservative Party of Canada and constituents of Barrie-Innisfil, Happy Falun Dafa Day!”
Saskatoon Proclaims Falun Dafa Day
On May 11, the flag-raising ceremony for Falun Dafa Day was held in Saskatoon, the largest city in Saskatchewan. Mayor Charlie Clark issued a proclamation and proclaimed May 11 to 17, Falun Dafa Day in Saskatoon.

Regina Issues a Proclamation
Mayor Sandra Masters of the City of Regina issued a Proclamation and proclaimed May 13 "Falun Dafa Day" in the city.
A flag-raising ceremony was held in the City of Regina on May 15.
