Letting Go of My Fear to Clarify the Facts to Police Officials

Feb. 23, 2024 |   By a Falun Dafa practitioner in China

(Minghui.org) I always felt sad when I read about Falun Dafa practitioners being arrested or sentenced, and during the past few years, practitioners in my area have been arrested. We took the opportunity to work together as a team and clarify the facts to the police. As we worked to rescue detained practitioners, we overcame our own fear and improved in our cultivation. I’d like to share several experiences of how I clarified the facts to the directors of domestic security bureaus (a domestic security bureau is a branch of a county police department).

First Meeting

Back in 2010, several local practitioners were sent to a forced labor camp. To rescue them, practitioner Anling encouraged us to clarify the facts to the director of our Domestic Security Bureau and persuade the police to stop participating in the persecution.

I was scared when I heard her suggestion. I was a homemaker with a middle school education and had never had any experience dealing with officials. But I knew it was the right thing to do, because Master taught us, “Clarifying the truth is the master key.” (“Teaching the Fa at the 2003 Atlanta Fa Conference,” Collected Fa Teachings, Vol. IV)

So I went with Anling and two other practitioners to the police department and found Geng, the director of the Domestic Security Bureau. Anling recounted the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) dreadful history, from its political campaigns, to the Cultural Revolution and the Tiananmen Massacre, as well as the persecution of Falun Dafa. “Which of those campaigns was correct? Falun Dafa teaches Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance—what’s wrong with that?” she asked him.

Geng didn’t answer her question directly but claimed that Falun Dafa was targeted because the practitioners engaged in politics and were against the CCP. Instead of arguing him, Anling gave him a copy of the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party and said, “Read this book carefully. Then you will understand everything.”

The other two practitioners and I told him how we’d benefited from practicing Dafa, including how our health and character improved. We gave him more Dafa materials to watch and urged him to do what was right instead of being a CCP accomplice and doing evil.

As we spoke, the director relaxed and he listened attentively. In the end, he agreed to quit the CCP and said, “Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good.”

Visiting a Nearby County

Five practitioners and I went to a community fair in a nearby county in 2014. Four of them were arrested and detained. Bei and I escaped and returned home heavy-hearted.

I informed our local practitioners and asked for help from practitioners in another county. Under so much pressure to rescue all four detained practitioners, I lost my appetite and kept crying. I wanted to talk to the director of the Domestic Security Bureau there, but my fear held me back. On the other hand, I knew timing was important and I shouldn’t wait until their cases were forwarded to the next step. Reminding myself of Master’s Dafa teachings, I knew I had to do something for these practitioners.

After talking with other practitioners, we began to distribute Dafa information booklets and put up posters around the police stations in that county. We also sent forth righteous thoughts every day to eliminate the evil elements. When we felt it was the right time, we went to that Domestic Security Bureau and requested the practitioners’ release.

Over 30 practitioners took off work that day and we all went together. Bei and the family members of the detained practitioners first went to talk to Mai, the director of the Domestic Security Bureau, who looked threatening. But Bei wasn’t disturbed and persisted in clarifying the facts. Mai asked Bei if he also practiced Falun Gong, but Bei didn’t answer and kept talking. In the end, Mai said either he received money to settle the case or wait to see the practitioners sentenced. Bei said they wouldn’t accept either option. Mai then told the practitioners to leave and wait for further notice.

The meeting lasted for over an hour, and I stayed in the car to send forth righteous thoughts. Yet I still felt scared and my heart beat fast. I realized that I was afraid of being persecuted myself, especially of being arrested if I went to talk to the police. I told myself that I needed to let go of my fear. By then another practitioner’s family member had come to talk to the police, so I went inside with her.

After we explained why we were there, Mai shouted, “I just sent one group off and now two more of you are here! You have a lot of nerve, coming here to demand their release!”

It was interesting that, although I was so nervous on the outside, I was no longer afraid when I was actually inside and talking to Mai in person. I kept clarifying the facts and insisted that the police release the practitioners that day. In the end, Mai said that he couldn’t make the call and it had to go through the police chief. He told us to leave and wait for updates from him.

Knowing that it was impossible for the police to release the practitioners immediately, we left. Twelve days later, all four practitioners were released, but the police extorted 20,000 yuan from each family.

Meeting with the New Director

Two local practitioners were arrested in 2023 after being reported for talking to people about Falun Gong. Anling and I went to the Domestic Security Bureau to request their release. After we were stopped at the entrance, we managed to find the address of Qiang, the new director of the Domestic Security Bureau, and visited him at home.

We went and found Qiang at home by himself. Anling and I talked to him for a long time, trying to persuade him to quit the CCP and stop participating in the persecution. He didn’t agree immediately, but he did promise not to submit the practitioners’ cases to the procuratorate for prosecution.

Before we left, we made another appointment to talk to him. That time, Anling and I invited a third practitioner to join us. We brought fruit for Qiang. He was very friendly and the conversation went well. We talked to each other like friends. We shared how we benefited from practicing Dafa, how Dafa teaches us to be good people, how Dafa had been spread all over the world, and, most importantly, how it has always been legal to practice Dafa in China.

We also brought Qiang some booklets and photos of the stone in Guizhou Province with the characters “The Chinese Communist Party Is Eliminated” carved in it naturally. We asked if he had any formal documents about the persecution. He said he couldn’t show them to us, as they were all their internal documents. We talked for over two hours, until his coworker called him.

When we left, we saw many practitioners sending righteous thoughts for us across the street (I didn’t know they were coming). It was hot that day and they’d stayed in the car for hours to send righteous thoughts. I was really touched.

Conclusion

The four times I met with the directors of Domestic Security Bureaus was in fact a process to cultivate myself. When my fear emerged, whether I ran away to avoid it or overcame it by striving forward was a constant choice I had to make. In this process, Master removed the substance of fear from me.

In fact, the police are the real victims who need our help the most. Talking to them to rescue practitioners is a great opportunity to clarify the facts to them and save them. I realized that only when we let go of our attachments to ourselves and consider others wholeheartedly are we in line with the characteristic of the new universe. Our successes would not have been possible without Master’s help and protection. I also want to thank the other practitioners for their selfless contributions.
