(Minghui.org) The Chongqing Women’s Prison notified Ms. Xu Xiaoqin’s husband on the morning of March 28, 2024 that she had been hospitalized three days before. They claimed she fell due to some health issues. The caller said that Ms. Xu was found to have mild anemia and was discharged from the hospital after spending two days there. Her husband, Mr. Yao Rongxuan, is still very worried about her health and safety.

Since Ms. Xu was taken to the Chongqing Women’s Prison on June 7, 2023 to serve a 3.5-year term for practicing Falun Gong, the once healthy woman has been subjected to constant torture for upholding her faith. She developed high blood pressure and became extremely weak just five months after she was incarcerated. Her once black hair is now gray.

Three prison guards, including Tang Anzhi, Wang, and Xu, suddenly showed up at Ms. Xu’s home on October 27, 2023. They asked her family to help them persuade her to give up practicing Falun Gong. They refused to comply and said there was nothing illegal about Ms. Xu exercising her constitutional right to freedom of belief.

Ms. Xu’s sentence stemmed from an arrest on February 27, 2020 while she was buying groceries. The police took her keys and raided her residence. Her Falun Gong books and computer were confiscated. After taking her to the hospital for a physical examination, the police brought her to the police station and restrained her on a tiger bench. They interrogated her, and claimed they saw her distributing Falun Gong materials through surveillance cameras. She was released on bail around noon the following day.

Ms. Xu was taken back into custody on April 19, 2021 and held at the Yongchuan District Detention Center. The police ransacked her home a day later, seizing her computer and other personal items. The Jiulongpo District Court sentenced her to 3.5 years in May 2023. The Chongqing Fifth Intermediate Court ruled to uphold the verdict.

Prior to Ms. Xu’s latest sentence, she served two criminal detentions for a total of 58 days (April 16 – May 13, 2013, April 6 – May 5, 2017), four brainwashing center detentions for at least 110 days (April 16, 2012 – unknown date, November 5 – November 30, 2012, July 2 – July 31, 2017, and September 22 – November 13, 2017), and two prison terms of 3 and 1.5 years given in 2014 and 2018, respectively.

While serving her second prison term at the Chongqing Women’s Prison, she was shocked with electric batons and forced to work at least 12 hours a day without pay. Guard Tang Anzhi was the main perpetrator that tortured her.

Guard Tang, who is in charge of brainwashing practitioners in the prison, began to persecute Falun Gong as early as in 2007. By torturing them, she forced at least 160 practitioners to renounce their faith. Many inmates who were assigned to “work on” newly admitted practitioners were fraudsters specifically picked by Tang.
